Judas Series Discernment 6–8 min read

Is There a Judas in the House?

Open Bible with shadows and a red ribbon, representing discernment and betrayal

Jesus was not fooled. He knew what was in Judas’ heart. That truth forces an honest conclusion: not all who talk the talk are walking the walk. Not all who walk with me are actually walking with me.

So I must pay attention to the clues that reveal the true heart of those around me. Discernment is not paranoia—it is wisdom. It is protection. It is maturity.

Key takeaway:
Proximity does not equal loyalty. Pay attention to fruit, patterns, and posture.

Lesson 1: The Walk Versus the Talk

Jesus was not fooled. He knew what was in Judas’ heart. So, I have to conclude that not all who talk the talk are walking the walk. Not all who walk with me are actually walking with me.

So, I need to pay attention to the clues that reveal the true heart of those around me.

Matthew 7:22–23 (ESV)
“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”

Lesson 2: Betrayal Doesn’t Exempt Me

If Judas, a member of the twelve, could betray Jesus, then I am not exempt. So, when they betray, I pray—and I live to see another day.

Psalm 55:12–14 (ESV)
“For it is not an enemy who taunts me—then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me— then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. We used to take sweet counsel togeter; within God's house we walked in the throng.
